Early spring capsule wardrobe in a van

Life in a motorhome teaches you very quickly that space is precious. Every cupboard counts, every drawer matters and that’s exactly where a capsule wardrobe becomes a game-changer. Instead of packing for every possible occasion, you choose a small collection of pieces that mix, match and layer effortlessly, giving you plenty of outfit options without filling the van.

I love this 4×4 grid for creating a capsule wardrobe. Here’s mine for early spring in the UK.

You can see it’s a perfect example of how a simple spring capsule can work on the road. Neutral trousers, jeans and a patterned skirt and cap (it had to be leopard print for me!) that all form the base, while cozy knits, a light blouse, and a simple white tee allow for easy layering as the weather shifts from chilly mornings to milder afternoons. Throw in a bright bag and gold earrings to accessorise easily for a pop of colour and bling!

How it works

You can create an outfit from the grid by choosing a row of 4 items, either horizontal, vertical or diagonally – creating at least 10 easy outfits.

Easy outfits for everyday motorhome life

For countryside walks – Pair the ecru cream jeans with the hiking boots, camel jumper and a cap. Add the lightweight jacket (or throw on unbuttoned blue shirt) if there’s a breeze, or switch out the jeans for the faux leather black leggings if it’s a bit muddy! Comfortable, practical and still pulled together enough to pop into a café afterwards.

For pub lunches – The leopard skirt with the cream sleeveless knit or white tee instantly feels a little more dressed up.

Opting for blue denim jeans, you can keep it more casual with a white tee, beige knitted vest top and trainers, or choose the black jumper and black mules that is still relaxed but stylish look that works perfectly for a long pub lunch.

For visiting friendsEcru cream jeans with the blue denim shirt and throw over a beige knitted vest top to create a smart-casual outfit that’s comfortable for travelling but still looks polished. Or the beige jumper with the leopard print skirt, paired with the trainers and a cap to keep it relaxed. You could also swap in the black boots to elevate that look with the skirt.

For casual dinners out – The black leggings, black jumper and black boots, with gold earrings to give it a special touch. You can’t go wrong with all black. Or mix the leopard print skirt with the black mules, denim shirt and a bright coloured bag gives simple but stylish.

Why capsule wardrobes work so well in a motorhome

A small wardrobe like this means:

– Less clutter in your van

– Easier packing and unpacking

– Outfits that always work together

– More time enjoying the journey instead of choosing what to wear

With just a handful of well-chosen pieces, you can go from coastal walks to cosy pub evenings while still feeling comfortable, confident, and ready for whatever the road brings.

Sometimes the best wardrobes aren’t the biggest – they’re simply the smartest. Also read my previous blog on how to look glam in a van, with similar principals that I hope you find useful!
